And WoodsPortumna Forest Park covers almost 600 hectares and has been developed as a public amenity, with beautiful forest and lakeshore walks, where the silence is broken only by the sound of birds, and your companions are the wary and the curious deer Sixteen species of wild mammals reside within the park, including the elusive pine marten, a native dweller which until recently was on the verge of extinction. Bird life abounds in the general area and at least eighty five different types breed here. The changing seasons of the year see the area offering sustenance to migratory birds from Scandin avia, Iceland, Greenland and Africa. The area is truly a delight for the visitor with an interest in flowers, shrubs and trees, many of which are rare and uncommon elsewhere in Europe. The park is open 7 days a week. More info |
