Welcome to Lawrencetown VillageLawrencetown, in the parish of Clonfert, is know in Irish as An Baile Mor, the big town. Walter Lawrence first erected the village in about 1700. It can be said that Lawrencetown is in the centre of Ireland. Lawrencetown is a village in the East Galway bordering three counties, Roscommon, Offaly and Tipperary. It is only thirty minutes from the towns of Birr and Athlone and forty minutes from Galway City. Lawrencetown has a varied landscape of fine agricultural land, forestry, peat lands and is in close proximity to the river Shannon. Activities such as fishing, walking, golf, soccer, equestrian, hurling, football are popular among locals and tourists alike. There is a variety of accommodation in the area from self-catering, bed and breakfast, farmhouse/equestrian, and a choice of fine hotels nearby. The area is in steeped in history with castles, lisheens, fairy ring forts, monuments and Clonfert cathedral nearby.
