Shuffleboard - An Ancient Game

Modern Shuffleboard is an absorbing game played by either two persons (called singles) or by four persons (called doubles). The object of the game is to propel discs by means of a cue onto scoring diagram at the appropriate end of the court - to score, to prevent opponent from scoring, or both.

Shuffleboard as it is played today evolved out of several games that go back into history 400 years or more. Back in 15th Century England, shuffleboard was a popular game called 'shove- groat' or 'shove-penny' and was very popular with the aristocracy.

Some modern sports historians say that today's game, shuffleboard has come from the shovel-board' that was played outdoors on hard packed dirt courts in 18th Century England and Scotland
